Blooms Day November

Doing my duty to bring a dash of sunlight and color to all the garden blog readers in the winter months...

Bougainvillea to infinity ( or so it seems)

Oleander-though the form of the plants don't appeal to me I like the flowers. I wish the oleander plant came in a more elegant form, as its the easiest plant to propagate and grow here.

Buds and Blooms of Kalanchoe Gastonis Bonnieri, Donkey Ears

Coral hibiscus-blooms every day. Those in warm climes should grow this more as its so easy compared to the hybrids.

old and beautifully gnarled bougainvillea

My favourite Kalanchoe blossfeldia-this one had huge architectural leaves year round and bursts of yellow flowers every from November for a few months. Self seeds to rejuvenate itself every year, too.

So bright and beautiful. We grow Bougainvillea and Oleander too. I am not a huge fan of Oleanders, though the flowers are beautiful :)

Impressive (intimidating thorns on the bougainvillea!

Your pictures leave me longing for a tropical vacation. We're going to Hawaii in March...months and months away. Sigh...

My yellow oleander blooms just once in May - but it's fragrant - would that makes up for the stiffness of the form, Nicole?

Those flowers are from Donkeys Ears? Wonder if some little starts I got from a friend will ever grow up to do that!
Happy GBBD,

A wonderful return to summer for us, Nicole, thanks! The kalanchoes are really marvelous. Great shot of the boug. I love the willow pod sculpture as well, thanks for the tip! :-)

Thanks HHG, Rusty, DG.

Noelle-I agree the flowers are so lovely-now if only they could breed some nicer form of the plant! I guess if you took the effort you could shape it.

Chuck: people in the tropics often grow bougainvillea on fences as a burglar deterrent! Its usually quite effective for this "double purpose".

Thanks Frances-I will try my best to pots for GD all winter.

Annie-my Donkey's Ears bloomed after just a year from starts-I did give those particular 2 plants lots organic fertilizer and they had lots of sun, so I guess that's why they bloomed and the others did not. The plant dies after blooming, though.
