It all began with a pile of rocks. The rocks were from the digging the holes for the palms trees and are composed of limestone.
For the most exposed and barren corner of the new garden a rock garden was the obvious choice: no need for high maintenance and a great opportunity to showcase my large and medium agaves as well as larger succulents. All well out of the way of traffic where anyone can get jabbed.
Agave bovicornuta
Aloe vera with yucca and a date palm in the back
Agave beauleriana Jacobi
Six weeks later it’s looking great. Still have to fill in with smaller plants including flowers and grasses.
Lots of inspiration form Debra Baldwin’s Designing With Succulents and her blog. http://www.debraleebaldwin.com/ as well as my Visit to the SF Botanical Garden.
